Greens in Ernakulam district have voiced support to a Government move to introduce a law to check filling of paddy fields in the State. Rampant filling of paddy fields had been on in various parts of the district for the last one year. These fields were later used for buiding multi-storey apartments and other construction projects. Studies conducted by Government agencies had found that the ecosystem of the region got affected following massive filling of wetlands and paddy fields. Environmentalists want the Government to bring in legislation at the earliest to prevent a natural disaster in the Greater Kochi region.
