R.R. Keshava Murthy passes away

R.R. Keshava Murthy

Bangalore: R.R. Keshava Murthy, renowned violinist, passed away on Monday. He was 93 years old.

He is survived by his son, daughters, grandchildren and many students.

RRK, as he was popularly known, was a disciple of Bidaram Krishnappa, who was also the guru of his contemporary, T. Chowdiah. He was said to be the only one in the country to have mastered playing the seven-stringed violin.

He was a recipient of several awards, including the Kanaka Purandara Award, the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award and the Sangeet Natak Academy Award.

He wrote over 10 books on "Sangeetha Laksha Lakshana."

Several of his students, such as T. Rukmini and Bhuvaneshwaraiah, have gone on to become renowned violinists.

R.R.K. was an A-Top artiste of All India Radio.

He was head of the audition board at the AIR.

He was an expert on bowing and fingering techniques. He had attended several conferences and made paper presentations and demonstrations.
