CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Health Department is all set to launch an intensified pulse polio immunisation drive on Sub-National Immunisation Day falling on November 12, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Health) Urvashi Gulati said here on Tuesday. Addressing a meeting of senior health functionaries, including the Director-General of Health Services, State Nodal Officers and all District Immunisation Officers, she stressed the need for following proper micro-planning, especially in high-risk areas, and training of vaccinators and supervisors for the ensuing event. She also emphasised the need for enhanced pro-activeness of the transit teams and involvement of non-government organisations and representatives of the Indian Medical Association for the success of the immunisation drive. National Coordinator Dr. Pankaj Bhatnagar gave a brief account of global, national and states' scenario of polio eradication initiatives. He said that most of the cases of polio were in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and the cases in Haryana were in the bordering districts of Uttar Pradesh. Surveillance Medical Officers -- Dr. Kamaljit Singh and Dr. Sachin -- and members from NGOs like SWACH Foundation, Panchkula, Uthan, Yamunanagar and Nav Yuvak Kala Sangam, Rohtak, also attended the meeting.
