Exhibition on State's history

KOLLAM: An exhibition on the political and cultural history of the State is being organised by Jai Hind TV at the Public Library Hall here on October 25 and 26. The event, named Suvarna Keralam, is being organised in connection with golden jubilee of Kerala formation. Mayor N. Padmalochanan will inaugurate the exhibition. — Staff Reporter

Drop decision on post office: MP

ALAPPUZHA: K.S. Manoj, MP, has demanded that the Union Government immediately revoke its decision to start post offices in the private sector. In a statement Mr. Manoj said the Government had been closing down the post offices in the country for the last few years. In the context, inviting the private sector to start new post offices could not be justified, he said. The decision was also against its promise not to close down those public sector units which functioned effectively, he pointed. - Staff Reporter

Five arrested

Thrissur: Five persons were arrested from Chavakkad on Tuesday for alleged attempt to assault the police. The attempted assault took place on Monday during the investigation of an abduction case, the police said. The arrested were Zakeer, 21, Biju, 23, Shahul Hameed, 22, Hamsa, 25, and Abdul Gafoor, 20. — Staff Reporter

Protest march

ALAPPUZHA: The Alappuzha district committee of Campus Front will organise a march from Zakaria Bazar to Mullakkal on Wednesday in protest against police atrocities against minorities in the State, said a statement from the district committee. The march will begin from Zakaria Bazar at 5 p.m. and will end at AVJ junction. — Staff Reporter
