Naidu regrets TDP rally at Vijayawada

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday expressed regret and sought to put to rest the controversy over the rally taken out by the party in Vijayawada lampooning Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Mr. Naidu told reporters that he had pulled up party leaders who took out the procession and had condemned other rallies where animals were taken out in Guntur and other places. He warned the party men against such rallies as TDP stood for value-based politics, he said. "I told them that people expect such things only from the Congress and not from TDP." When the procession was taken out in Vijayawada, he was in New Delhi, but he had condemned it.

But he was critical of the Congress for not condemning the equally objectionable rallies taken out by the party. "I am told a Backward Class person was dressed like me in their rally. Did we politicise it? We should all work towards maintaining high standards in politics."
