Congressmen surrender

VIJAYAWADA: Twelve Congress party workers, including city Congress committee president Pyla Sominaidu, surrendered before the I-Town police on Tuesday. Mines found

NALGONDA: Three farmers committed suicide in Nalgonda district unable to handle mounting debt burden. Poosoju Venkateswarlu, 34, of Saligowraram mandal, Peddireddi China Narsimha, 45, of Bhoodan Pochampally mandal, and Boreddy Narasimha Reddy, 35, of Mellacheruvu mandal died after allegedly consuming pesticide. - Staff Reporter

Cyclist run over by bus

TIRUPATI: Ashok, 27, a native of Nellore was run over by an APSRTC bus belonging to the Puttur depot on Tuesday. The youngster, who was riding a bicycle, was reportedly trapped between the road divider at the bus at RTC junction. — Staff Reporter

Charged with killing wife

KADAPA: A 19-year-old woman Pravallika was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband Prasad Reddy at Srinivasapuram in Gopavaram mandal on Tuesday. The woman, hailing from Narasaraopet in Guntur district, Pravallika had married Prasad Reddy five years ago and they have two children Prasanth (3) and Jyothipriya (1). Prasad Reddy apparently suspected her fidelity. Badvel urban circle inspector Sriramulu and urban SI Vinay Kumar Reddy inspected the scene of murder and registered a case. Sand extraction banned

KURNOOL: The panchayat officials banned extraction of sand from the Tungabhadra river bed at Panchalingala, Nidjur, Munagalapadu and E. Tandrapadu, according to a press note. — Staff Reporter

Nellore: The district Telugu Desam Party has announced its candidate for the Graduate's constituency. Party's legal cell State Secretary D. Hanumantha Rao will be the official candidate, according to TDP District President Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy. — Staff Reporter

Constituency-wise meetings

KADAPA: Assembly constituency-wise meetings will be conducted from October 31 to November 3, to create awareness among ZPTCs, mandal presidents and MPTC members on various developmental programmes being implemented by the Government, according to Collector M.T. Krishna Babu. In a statement on Tuesday, he said that the constituency meetings would be held at Proddatur and Kadapa on October 31, Kamalapuram and Jammalamadugu on November 2 and at Mydukur on November 3.-Staff Reporter

House panel visit

Kakinada : The Legislature Committee on the implementation of tribal welfare programmes will tour the district on October 27.The committee will arrive at Rajahmundry by the Gouthami Express in the morning and reach Rampachodavaram at 9 a.m. It will review the implementation of various tribal welfare programmes, including implementation of reservations, with the Collector, ITDA project officer and officials of various departments.

It will visit ST hostels in the purview of the ITDA in the afternoon and leave for Rajahmundry for night stay. The next day, the committee will leave for Kota Ramachandrapuram in West Godavari district by road.

Rice distributed

Kakinada : Vanamadi Venkateswerarao, former TDP MLA, has distributed rice and clothes among 550 poor people at a function held here to mark the 19th anniversary of the Muslim Youngmen's Association. He complimented association leaders for helping the poor on the eve of Ramzan.

Grandhi Narayanarao Babji, president, District Wholesale Foodgrain Dealers Association, who was guest of honour, distributed identity cards to the beneficiaries of old age pension scheme launched by the Muslim youth.

Man drowned

VIZIANAGARAM: Surendra Singh (31) of Haryana, who is working as a physical director in Kilthalpalem Navodaya School in Gantyada mandal, was drowned in Thatipudi reservoir on Tuesday morning.

He went there for swimming. His body was fished out and sent for post-mortem to district head quarter's hospital, K. Adinarayana, Gantyada ASI said.

VIZIANAGARAM: District Government Pensioners' Association at a meeting here has resolved to field D. Satya Murty, retired DRO, for the graduates constituency, according to president of the association Peddinti Appa Rao.

The association would also intensify voters enrollment programme, he added.
