Vijayakant criticises Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president Vijayakant on Tuesday accused the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Jayalalithaa of attempting to distract his attention from the fight against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Government.

In a statement, Mr. Vijayakant said putting an end to the "anarchic rule" of the DMK in the State had been his goal. Dubbing Ms. Jayalalithaa's reported "outbursts" against him a "diversionary tactic," he asked the DMDK activists not to fall prey to the "conspiracy."

He appealed to party activists and the public to strive for safeguarding democracy in tune with the dictum that it was better to hunt elephants with spears than chase hares with a bow and arrow.

The DMDK was able to garner considerable number of votes in the by-election at Madurai Central without bribing the voters, he said. — Special Correspondent
