NEW DELHI: Even as the weather got cooler to help reduce mosquito breeding, the northern region saw a sudden spurt in dengue with the reporting of 155 fresh cases besides three more deaths one each in Delhi, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh pushing the number of fatal cases to 127 all over the country. Sixty nine fresh cases each were detected in Delhi and Rajasthan, 10 in Haryana and 7 in Chandigarh. Two cases each were found in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh, raising the total number of people who have suffered countrywide from the viral infection to 7,687, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme said. Delhi has accounted for 50 deaths and 2,173 cases of infection. The dengue-causing Aedes aegypti mosquito breeds less vigorously in temperatures ranging between 18 degrees and 24 degrees Celsius.
