TIRUPATI : The first inter-collegiate sports and cultural competitions got under way here on Tuesday in the newly opened Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University with District Collector of Chittoor S.S. Rawat inaugurating the meet. The inaugural programme was marked by an impressive march-past by the students of the constituent colleges-- Veterinary Colleges of Tirupati, Hyderabad, Gannavaram besides the College of Fisheries, Muthukur. University Vice-Chancellor Manmohan Singh hoisted the tricolour and inspected the march-past. In his brief address, the District Collector spoke on the important role, the dairy and poultry sectors played in the lives of the people of the semi-arid Chittoor district and said that the setting up of an university exclusively for veterinary sciences would go a long way in developing the human resources needed to handle our burgeoning food and dairy sectors. G.V.Narasa Reddy, associate Dean and Dean of Students Affairs presented a report on the four-day event and college activities.
