ANANTAPUR: The district police have proved their mettle by resolving a case within 24 hours of occurrence of the crime. The Gorantla police recovered Rs. 8.85 lakhs, robbed from an employee of an oil trader at 10 p.m. on Monday by Tuesday evening.

According to the police, an oil tanker with sunflower oil was on its way to Kadiri from Bangalore. The stock belonged to an oil trader from Gorantla. Ravikumar and his employee, Venkatesh, were accompanying the tanker carrying Rs. 8.85 lakhs.

As the tanker reached the outskirts of Gownivaripalli village in Gorantla mandal, two motorcycle borne persons threw stones on the lorry, broke the windscreens and stopped the vehicle. Later, they snatched the cash bag from Venkatesh and sped away. Lorry driver Dorai and cleaner Manju tried to put up a fight but in vain.
