Ryots up in arms against delay in setting up fertilizer plant

Lay siege to Iffco's local office in protest against the delay

  • Forcibly send out the cooperative's staff out and lock up office
  • Farmers seek return of farmland acquired for fertilizer plant

NELLORE: Several farmers of Racharlapudi village, whose lands have been acquired for the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited's (Iffco) proposed fertilizer plant, laid a siege to the Iffco's local office in protest against the delay in setting up the plant.

They forcibly sent Iffco staff out and locked the office. These protests on Monday as well as Tuesday could be the first-ever demonstration, highlighting the growing resentment. They alleged that Iffco acquired 2,777 acres in 1997 to set up the plant.
