Probe sought into kidnap bid

Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM: Bhadrachalam MLA and CPI(M) leader Sunnam Rajaiah wanted a thorough probe into the alleged attempt to kidnap a seven-year-old tribal girl Veneela from Mallapuram village of Venkatapuram mandal four days ago.

He said on Tuesday that the tribal community in the area was up in arms following reports that the girl was picked up for human sacrifice. The community was blaming a construction company entrusted with the works on an irrigation project the area for the episode and wanted action against the guilty. Villagers ransacked the office of the company.

The MLA said that the administration and the police should give credence to the version of the tribals and help dispel their fears.

]He said the tribal girl, who reportedly managed to escape from the kidnappers, had a detailed account of the episode. He wanted the police at least to find out the motive behind the kidnap bid.

He said the girl could identify persons involved in the crime. But no action was taken against them so far. The issue would be taken up with the human rights commission.

In the meantime, the Venkatapuram police said a case was already booked and investigation was in progress.
