  • Collector addresses awareness meet on scheme at Kanigiri
  • Exhorts people to keep surrounding clean

ONGOLE: District Collector B. Udaya Lakshmi has asked people to make proper use of the Employment Guarantee programme being implemented in drought-affected mandals to check migration of labour in search of work.

Addressing an awareness meeting on the programme held in the mandal revenue office at Kanigiri on Tuesday, she asked officials and elected representatives to work together to ensure proper utilisation of funds.

    Job cards

She said that village and mandal samakhyas would select the works and implement them strictly avoiding machines and contractors.

Job cards should be issued to all needy people and they must be engaged to execute the works like desiltation of tanks, strengthening of bunds, development of land belonging to SC and ST communities, etc.

Wages should be paid to workers through bank accounts or post offices. She exhorted people to keep the surroundings clean and check mosquito breeding to fight against diseases like malaria, chikungunya, dengue, etc. Awareness should also be created to check spread of AIDS. Steps should be taken to encourage institutional deliveries and conduct family planning operations.

    Drinking water

Drinking water schemes were inaugurated in Kanigiri. MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy and ZP

    Chairperson Katam Arunamma attended.

Ms. Udaya Lakhsmi reviewed development works in Kanigiri constituency. She would spend the night in a remote village in Chandrasekhara Puram mandal as part of "Palle Nidra" programme.
