Chamarajanagar: Several people from parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu witnessed the "Lord Malai Mahadeshwaraswamy's Maharathotsava" on the occasion of Deepavali at M.M. Hills in the early hours of Monday. Devotees pulled the car from the temple premises at around 9 a.m. It is customary for farmers of this region to throw their agriculture produce to the car and offer prayers to Lord Madappa. Devotees had a difficult time owing to water shortage. Borewells had dried up because of scanty rain in the forest region of M.M. Hills. The devotees took bath in the polluted water that accumulated in a small pit near "Antharagange". They were unhappy with the district administration and temple authorities for not making arrangements to provide drinking water and prasadam on the occasion of Rathotsava.
Teppotsava cancelled
It has been a tradition to take out Lord Mahadeshwaraswamy's Teppotsava at M.M. Hills Temple pool on Deepavali, Ugadi and Shivarathri festivals. But this time, the Teppotsava was cancelled as the temple pool had dried up. "Annadasoha", a programme to serve food to devotees was held as usual. Without adequate lodging facility, many devotees slept on the streets of M.M. Hills. Though the KSRTC and private parties ran adequate number of buses to M.M. Hills, they faced parking problems at the temple bus stand.
