NIZAMABAD: Former Minister and Telugu Desam Party senior leader Mandava Venkateswar Rao has criticised Chief MinisterY.S. Rajasekhara Reddy saying that there is no compatibility between what Dr. Reddy announces for people and what he does in practice. Referring to free power supply to the farm sector, he said the Chief Minister announced recently that he would ensure additional power supply for two more hours besides the existing seven-hour supply to the farm sector. Contrary to his promise, the supply was not given even for seven hours causing hardship to the farmers, he said. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Rao said the supply was going to be reduced to six hours and it was confirmed by the electricity authorities too. It was unfortunate that all the reservoirs were full of water, but hydel power generation was stopped.
Pothireddypadu
Accusing the Chief Minister of taking this decision only to release water for Rayalaseema through the Pothireddypadu head regulator, he said, as a result, paddy and water-intensive crop fields were drying in Telangana as farming was based on electricity in the region. "This has arisen due to lack of awareness of Chief Minister over the prevailing conditions. Therefore, Dr. Reddy must be held responsible for all the woes of farming community", he said. Mr. Rao said paddy was drying under Nizam Sagar ayacut as proper supply was not ensured even if there was plenty of water in the project. The official machinery was in deep slumber when the main canal breached, he charged. Telugu Desam Party leaders A. Narasa Reddy, V.G. Goud, A. Kishan Rao, V. Mohan Reddy and others attended.
