CHENNAI: Are you a school student with a record that can boast of academic excellence, extracurricular activities or community services? If yes, you could win the Young Achievers Award this year instituted by the Sornammal Educational Trust. The award is part of the trust's annual youth programme aimed at encouraging students to aim high and achieve their goals. Students aged between 6 and 16 with a record of good performance in academic or extracurricular activities are eligible. The criteria for selection will include the area of the achievement, level of participation such as national, state or district and the nature of performance such as first or second place and an interview. Candidates may obtain the application either through post by sending a self-addressed envelope or from www.ciosa.org.in or from their office at 78, Solai Street, Ayanavaram. The application must include the applicant's biography, passport size photograph, school teacher's or extracurricular advisor's recommendation letter and recent certificate of records. The applications must reach the trust on or before October 30. The award would be given on November 25. Established in 1996, the trust aimes at helping underprivileged students. About 550 children have been provided with scholarships so far and a school in Ayanavaram has been adopted. For details, contact the trust at 26443307 or 93805 43197.
