A unique Deepavali with special children

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: For the students of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Vathsalya School for Special Education, it was a special Deepavali. The children, who suffer from cerebral palsy, autism and associated disabilities, celebrated the festival of lights with Ashwini Nachappa, former athlete, and senior HAL officials.

The students exhibited their skills in making pouches, woollen items, greeting cards, and paper bags. "This is a special Deepavali for me, as I am celebrating it with these children," Ms. Nachappa said.

"These children have time and again shown that they are second to none," said Sanjeev Sahi, Director (Personnel), HAL. Ms. Nachappa and HAL officials distributed sweets and sparklers to the children.

According to a press release, a team from the school had organised an exhibition on occasion of Deepavali, titled "Abhiman", at the HAL Corporate Office. The products made by the children were on display at the exhibition, which was inaugurated by HAL Chairman Ashok K. Baweja. Paraplegic athlete Malathi Holla and danseuse Padmaja Suresh participated.
