OU opens new international centre

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A new centre called Osmania University Centre for International Programmes (OUCIP) was opened in the erstwhile building of the American Studies Research Centre (ASRC) inside the campus on Tuesday.

Director of the Centre Siddiq Ali said OUCIP would provide an international face to OU by creating space for an intellectual engagement for academicians, scholars and policy makers.

Need to cope

At the inaugural symposium on `Knowledge, University and Society' at the Centre, OU Vice-Chancellor Suleman Siddiqi underscored the need for traditional disciplines to cope with globalisation and said that social sciences and humanities need not be relegated into a state of non salience.

All disciplines

Kausar J. Azam, Advisor, Programmes and Development, said the Centre will not be a single subject or a single funding institution but will welcome researchers and faculty from all disciplines, according to a press release.
