HYDERABAD: Commuting in ordinary city buses would soon be on a par with Metro and Veera buses, at least in terms of entertainment if not anything else. The RTC city region is planning to provide FM Radios in all its buses in a month. Presently, 150 Metro along with several Veera buses in the city have installed FM Radio equipment. Tenders were called for in the last week for providing the radio services along with installation and maintenance of the equipment, according to the Corporation officials. City Regional Manager C. Pandu Ranga Murthy says the response from passengers of Metro buses was good and the basic objective behind the proposal was to offer better services.
Advantages
"It will serve two advantages. Corporation need not invest any money for providing the FM service. Instead, the company will be paying a premium amount every month," says Mr. Murthy.
Airing information
Information on traffic diversions, additional trips that are being operated on the routes and bus pass schemes etc will be aired for ten minutes every one hour.
Negotiations
Currently, negotiations are on with the successful bidder in terms of premium amount that is to be paid. After finalisation, the FM Radio equipment will be installed in all the buses in a phased manner, adds Mr. Murthy.
