Five surrender in Kathipara murder case

Remanded to judicial custody

CHENNAI : Five men surrendered before the Egmore court here on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old man, identified as Udaya, on the busy Kathipara junction, GST Road on Monday evening.

Police said N Ravichandran (39), G Varun (24) of Kumaran Nagar, S Somasundaram and R Boominathan (28) of Nallaankuppam and M Kumar alias Muthukumar of Valasaravakkam surrendered before the magistrate who remanded them to judicial custody till Nov 7.

On Monday evening, Udaya and his friend Sultan came to Kathipara junction in a two-wheeler where an armed gang attacked them. Udaya died on the spot.

Despite it being a busy area, the gang managed to escape. The shopkeepers in the vicinity downed shutters for some time.

Though the exact reason for the murder was not known, police suspect it to be the result of a vendetta. Further investigation is on.
