Plea for re-counting

Staff Reporter

Chennai: A Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam candidate, who contested in division 32 of the Chennai Corporation, has written to Corporation Commissioner M. P. Vijayakumar, appealing for a re-count of votes in the third round of counting that took place on Friday.

M. Shanmugasundari, runner-up to CPI candidate A. Subramani, alleged that he had won only because of malpractice. She said that she had been leading till the end of the second round of counting, when a gang of 15 persons captured the booth. They had also ordered her agents out and transferred her votes to the CPI candidate, she said.

Ms. Shanmugasundari urged the Commissioner to take action to ensure that the "truth is revealed".
