CHENNAI : A team of students of Mechanical Engineering of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, who passed out this year, has won the `Innovative Student Project Award' instituted by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), New Delhi. Arvind Raghavendran, R.Arun, M.Chidambaram and V.Yuvaraj worked on a project titled `Fabrication and automation of PLC based multipurpose LMD centre', in which they explored the possibility of integrating lathe, milling and drilling (LMD) machines into one unit, using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), based on pneumatic and electric principles. Another group of students L.Leo Tolstoy, D.Anthony Raj, K.Raja and D.N.S.Praveen bagged the first place in the State level project exhibition held at the National Engineering College, Kovilpatti. They designed a cycle for the physically challenged. Abhiram Chakraborty, Varun Kalyan and S.Swaminathan, of the Electronics and Communication department received the first prize for their project on `Voice controlled electrical wheel chair with obstacle detection', at the event. R. Brinda, a third year student of Electronics and Communication, has been selected to present her project on `Cellular blood pressure metre' in Kuala Lumpur this December.
