NGO to conduct programme for senior citizens today

    VISAKHAPATNAM: A special programme christened `A joyful day for the elderly' is being organised by the Krushi Orthopaedic Welfare Society to promote its new concept of "1: 1 Share and care - For and by the aged" at the VUDA Children's Theatre here, on Wednesday.

    The day-long programme will provide a platform for senior citizens to exhibit their talents in various areas and for exchange of ideas and opinions. Cultural competitions would be conducted exclusively for senior citizens in their fields of interest like music, painting, sculpture, cookery, skits, best dressed male and female contest and best couple contest. Senior citizens can bring their art works to the venue for selection by a panel of judges.

    Children below five years would regale the senior citizens by dressing up as Lord Krishna, Jesus Christ, Guru Gobind Singh and Allah. A 35-minute documentary, produced by Krushi OWS, titled `Sandhya Samayam' to highlight the importance of music therapy, would be screened during the valedictory function.

    Dr. N.V.S. Kiran Kumar, president of Krushi OWS, would present a one-hour vocal concert in which he would sing songs from old films and ghazals in both Telugu and Hindi with the support of Joy Orchestra. Differently abled artistes of the NGO would also entertain the audience with their gathering. Identified disabled and elderly people would be presented wheel chairs, tricycles, daily hygiene kits, dress materials and blankets after the programme.

    A patient-friendly luxury wheel chair conceived and designed by Dr. Kiran and made by Narendra, a visually challenged person, and Devi Prasad would be launched at the programme.
