Letters to the Editor
The choice of A.K. Antony to succeed Pranab Mukherjee as Defence Minister is commendable. Notwithstanding his not-so-successful stint as the Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. Antony is widely respected for his personal integrity. The country requires an honest person like him at the helm of affairs in the Defence Ministry, particularly in view of the controversy surrounding purchase of arms. One hopes Mr. Antony will make defence procurement more transparent.
Harish Betha,
The Cabinet reshuffle is old wine in an older bottle. The re-induction of Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav who has "sorted out" his legal tangle is a bad example. There were days when only leaders known for probity in public life became Ministers. It is unfortunate that today, more and more leaders with cases pending against them occupy responsible posts. This will only invite scorn and apathy from the already rudderless younger generation.
C.S. Ramakrishnan,
