Many Dalits to convert to Buddhism

  • Buddhist monks from around the country will participate

    Bidar: Thousands of Dalits will convert to Buddhism during the Dhamma Deeksha ceremony to mark the golden jubilee of Dr. Ambedkar's conversion to Buddhism, at Anadur village in Bidar taluk on Sunday.

    Minister for Women and Child Welfare H.K. Kumaraswamy will inaugurate the ceremony.

    Monks to attend

    Buddhist monks from around the country will participate. Bhikku Arya Nagarjun Sureyi Sasai of Nagpur, Bhikku Dhamma Rakkhita of Mysore, Bhikku Dhammananda, Bhikku Sariputra, Bhikku Nagaghosha, Bhikku Vinay Keerti, Bhikku Sanganada and Bhikku Shraddha Bodhi will deliver religious lectures.

    Wide participation

    Buddhist writer Buddha Gosh Devendra Hegde, Republican Party of India MP Ramdas Athawale, Bidar MP Narsingrao Suryavanshi, Karnataka State Dalit Sangharsh Samiti president D.G. Sagar, State convener Malleshi Sajjan, district convener Maruti Bouddhe, zilla panchayat members Suresh Sindhe, Kushal Rao Yaba, and taluk panchayat member Prakash Kyada will participate, according to a release.
