"STEPPING IN ... STEPPING OUT": Balaji Ponna's creation
NEW DELHI: A one-of-its-kind art exhibition titled "Stepping In ... Stepping Out" is now on in Visual Arts Gallery at India Habitat Centre here. Organised jointly by Threshold and Art Konsult, the exhibition features outstanding works by Balaji Ponna, D. Priyanka, Prasanta Kalita, Rajiba Lochan Pani, Sachin Deo and Uday Mondal. Born in 1976, Uday Mondal graduated from the Indian College of Arts at Rabindra Bharati University in 1999. He also underwent training as part of a two-year printing workshop in Santiniketan and is the proud recipient of the best award from various faculties of West Bengal. His works have found place in private collections in both India and abroad. Assam-born Prasanta Kalita has taken part in several shows like those at M.S. University in Baroda and Full Circle at Lalit Kala Akademi besides participating in the Annual Art Exhibition and Bombay Art Society, Mumbai. He has also received a merit scholarship from M.S. University Baroda and World Peace Forum, Lalit Kala Akademi. Born in 1978, Sachin Deo did his diploma in fine arts from the Government Institute of Fine Arts, Indore. He had his first solo show at the Tao Art Gallery in Mumbai in 2002. For his outstanding work of art, he was awarded the Raza Award at the National Art Exhibition in Delhi (2005). Delhi-based artist D. Priyanka completed her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the College of Art (1997) and later did a Master's degree. She has participated in various group shows with Apparao Galleries in Chennai (2004) and was part of "Reclaiming the Lotus" at Apparao Galleries (2003). Her works figure in the collection of Concern India Foundation and All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society besides several private collections in Washington D.C., New York, Toronto, California and India. Orissa-born Rajiba Lochan Pani has been awarded at the annual show of J.J. School Mumbai and Lalit Kala Akademi in Delhi. His solo show was held at Arushi Arts, New Delhi, and he has participated in exhibitions at N.G.M.A. (Mumbai), the Monsoon Show (Jehangir Art Gallery). The artist lives and works in Mumbai. Born in 1980, Balaji Ponna finished his graduation from Andhra University in 2000. He has participated in various group shows and also in "Savara Tribal Camp" at Lalit Kala Akademi (Bastar) in 1999. He lives and works in Baroda.
