Staff Reporter
ALAPPUZHA: Learning will no longer be confined within the four walls of a classroom or to the prescribed set of textbooks for the students of schools under the Diocese of Alappuzha. The corporate management of schools is all set to connect the classrooms of 25 schools under the diocese through a digital network. Fr. Xavier Kudiyamsseri, corporate manager of the schools, said at a press conference here that the digital learning programme would help teachers teach students with the help of multimedia programmes. Expert teachers would interact with students through the network. He said K.C. Venugopal, MLA, would formally inaugurate the programme at a function at Leo XIII School on Thursday at 5 p.m. St. Mary's High School, Vattayal, and Leo XIII High School and office of the corporate management of the diocese had been networked, said Fr. Kudiyamsseri. Mr. Venugopal would declare the network operational. Fr. Kudiyamsseri said the e-learning facility would open a vast world of knowledge to students. Experts in various fields would answer the doubts of students through the programme, he said. He said the network would be connected to various libraries, informative websites, universities and non-governmental organisations in due course. Education agencies under the Union and State Governments, various NGOs and media were cooperating with the diocese in installing the network, Fr. Kudiyamsseri said. Fr. Kudiyamsseri said only a few schools in the State were able to utilise the potential of Edusat more than a year after it was launched. Information in compact discs developed by various agencies of the Union Government in the education and science sectors continued to elude the reach of a majority of students, he said.
Access to innovations
The digital network would give schools under the diocese access to all such innovations, he said. He said parents of students would be familiarised with the learning process. Fr. Kudiyamsseri said the network would provide state-of-the-art learning facilities to students from poor families.
