BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has introduced exclusive buses for pass holders with a view to offer speedy service. These buses are painted green for easy identification. Revenue from passes monthly, weekly and daily accounts for nearly 50 per cent of the operational revenue of the corporation. Besides being an assured advance earning for BMTC, passes eliminate pilferage by conductors that is reportedly rampant. Over two lakh commuters purchase daily pass and 2.5 lakh travel by monthly pass on any given day in BMTC buses. The corporation has deployed 10 such buses on important routes to begin with. Before November-end, BMTC intends to increase the number to at least 100 and would increase it further depending on the response. As of now, the corporation is painting the buses green, which are due for refurbishing. It intends to deploy new buses in the coming days.
Validity of passes
Apart from monthly (all category), weekly and daily passes, all kinds of passes issued by the BMTC including student passes, passes issued to the physically challenged and the blind would be valid in the special bus. The driver-cum-conductor verifies the pass and allows the commuter to travel. The driver would also sell daily and monthly passes. However, passes issued by the KSRTC are not allowed as in other BMTC buses. Also, no ticket travelling is allowed. Green Service is being operated on the following routes: 317A (Kempe Gowda Bus Station to Hoskote); Route no 2 (KBS to J.P. Nagar); 176 (Hampi Nagar to Kavalbyrasandra); 258C (KBS to Nelamangala); 402A (KBS to Yelahanka Satellite Town); 222A (KBS to Kengeri Satellite Town); 61A (KBS to Chandra Layout); 225C (KBS to BEML Layout V Stage); 171 (KBS to Koramangala); and 96G (KBS to Kamala Nagar).
