R.K.Swamy is new OTA Commandant

CHENNAI: For the second time in under a decade a Colonel of the Mahar Regiment will take over the top post of Officers Training Academy (OTA).

R.K.Swamy, born in Chennai and till recently General Officer Commanding of the counter insurgency Delta force in Jammu and Kashmir, will take over on October 26 from William Isaaks, officiating Commandant. Major General Swamy has been Colonel of the Mahar Regiment since September 8, 2004. Maj. Gen. Jaishankar was the earlier Commandant, who was also Colonel of the Mahar Regiment.

The OTA is the premier Army institution that trains men for the short service commission and also the only place where women officers are trained for general duties.

Maj.Gen.Swamy, who graduated from the Madras Christian College, joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun, and was commissioned into the Mahar Regiment (Infantry) in November 1971.
