Celebration time at Malai Mandir

NEW DELHI: Skanda Shasti will be celebrated at Swaminatha Swami temple (Malai Mandir) in Ramakrishnapuram here this Friday. The highlight of the celebrations will be a palanquin procession of Lord Muruga on the peacock throne followed by enactment of "Soorasamharam" (victory of good over demonic forces). Devotees can also perform "kavadi prarthanai" in the morning.

The 62nd year Skanda Shasti celebrations, which started on October 20, will end on October 29. The Devasena Thirukkalyanam (divine marriage) will take place on October 28. Special events like Dhwajarohanam, Dig Bhandanam, Vedic chants, havans and cultural and spiritual programmes form part of the celebrations conducted by Sree Swaminatha Swami Seva Samaj.

Convention on Satyagraha

NEW DELHI: To mark the Satyagraha centenary year, the National Institute of Social Communications, Research and Training in association with Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti is organising a one-day convention on "Satyagraha and Media" at Tees January Marg here this Saturday.

The convention will be inaugurated by Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh, while eminent Gandhian journalist Prabhash Joshi will deliver the keynote address.

Amnesty scheme demanded

NEW DELHI: Municipal Corporation of Delhi Standing Committee member and Delhi Pradesh BJP secretary Vijender Gupta on Wednesday demanded that the sealing drive that is scheduled to start from November 1 should not take place.

He said an amnesty scheme should be introduced instead to regularise all constructions carried out before January 1 this year and regularise mixed land use and commercial activities in residential areas.

Ramdev to open Arya Mahasammelan

NEW DELHI: Yoga guru Swami Ramdev will inaugurate a four-day "Antarashtriya Arya Mahasammelan" at Swarna Jayanti Park in Rohini Sector-13 here on Thursday.

The convention is being organised jointly by Sarvdeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha and Delhi Arya Pratinidhi Sabha.

After the inauguration, Swami Ramdev will also perform yoga before the audience.
