Court orders vigilance inquiry

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has ordered a vigilance inquiry by the High Court Registrar (Vigilance) into a complaint by a person accusing his lawyer of forging the signature of a dead man to file a contempt petition for non-compliance of a non-existent order.

Justice Ravinder Bhat of the High Court directed the Registrar to submit a report to the Court within four weeks on completion of the inquiry.

Mr. Justice Bhat also directed the lawyer, Surender Kumar, and the complainant, Yash Pal, to be present before the Registrar on November 2.

In his complaint, Yash Pal submitted that his advocate Surender Kumar took his signature on a blank paper and forged the signature of Shyam Lal who had passed away in August 2006 to file a fake contempt-of-court petition for defying a non-existent order in September this year.

He produced in the Court the death certificate of Shyam Lal in support of his contention that the accused lawyer had forged the signature of the deceased.
