Sangareddy: The Medak police have proposed a computer-based visual investigative aid called `Probe Angle' to the Andhra Pradesh Government, which could revolutionise the way crime scene investigation is done in the country. Officers using this software could actually design a scene of crime or find out all possible ways of entry into a house, which is burgled, or recreate an accident site on the computer to arrive at a conclusion on the cause of the collision.
Speedy investigation
Probe Angle could help the police analyse more data in a short time. It provides help in solving common crimes such as residential burglary, vehicle theft, robbery, serious assault, rape and homicide. The integrated suite of visual investigative analysis brings in clarity to complex investigations so that cases could be easily interpreted and analysed. The software allows the officers to access and consolidate data from multiple sources, discover seemingly unrelated links and apply a wide range of powerful analytical techniques online. The investigating authorities, to substantiate their findings during legal proceedings, could use the visual charts produced by the Probe Angle. The victims or the witnesses could also help the investigating officer by pin-pointing the particulars of a crime that unfolded in front of him through the diagrams depicted in the Probe Angle. Thereafter the officer could quickly see how information could be pieced together and gaps that require further investigation filled. However, any chart created by the Probe Angle can only be shared using access rights notification. Notified recipients will be able to view a read-only version of the police chart, which they can navigate, search and print. The Medak police hope that the Probe Angle together with Operation Epic (Electronic police information centre) could one day help the ISO 9001:2000 certified district achieve paperless police stations.
