Jaiprakash Yadav renews his stint in Ministry

NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav took charge on Wednesday as Minister of State for Water Resources. This is his second stint in the same position in the United Progressive Alliance Government. He had resigned in October 2005 after a criminal case was registered against him during the Bihar Assembly elections.

Priority areas

After taking charge, Mr. Yadav said that his priority would be better flood management, enhanced irrigation and power generation. For this, he stressed on cooperation with Nepal.

The Minister said he would pay due attention to ensure that water was made available to people as well as farmers for irrigation. He underlined the need for increasing irrigation facilities in the country and on timely completion of the pending Accelerated Irrigated Benefit Programme.

He avoided answering questions on his alleged "tainted" status saying he had good wishes for everyone on the occasion of Id.
