Bangalore: The State Government has approached the Centre for financial assistance in building Satellite Town Ring Road (STTR), Intermediate Ring road (IRR) and radial roads leading to Bangalore city, said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday.

Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons that the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) had proposed the ring roads to provide better connectivity to taluk areas.

The BMRDA said in July, when it announced the projects, that the 285 km STR, the 185 km IRR and the radial roads would ease congestion in Bangalore as highway traffic would bypass the city and travel on ring roads.

Ring roads would be built around Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Anekal, Hoskote, Kanakapura, Ramanagaram and Magadi. These ring roads marked a shift from the traditional method of connecting towns through bypasses, BMRDA Chairman Sudhir Krishna said.

An expressway would be built from Hennur on Outer Ring Road to the international airport coming up at Devanahalli, Mr. Kumarswamy said. The expressway would connect to NH 207, he said. The project had been entrusted to Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd., he said. Detailed project report to this effect would be submitted on Thursday, he said.

Integrated township

The BMRDA is developing an 800-acre integrated township called Arkavathynagar near Ramanagaram. The township would house the Institute for Rural Management, which would function on the lines of AMUL in Gujarat. The Satellite Data Repository is being developed by Indian Space Research Organisation and Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre at an initial cost of Rs. 2 crore, he said. Any area planning authority could use the data later, he said.
