BANGALORE: A 10-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by a man who had been living with the boy's mother for seven years in Hennur police station limits on Tuesday. The police said that around 6 p.m., Das, a native of Tamil Nadu and a cook at a hotel in Govindapura here, took Kalyan Kumar (10) to a wooded area in HRBR Layout and allegedly slit his throat with a knife. Kumar was a third standard student. According to the police, Ammu (32) had been living with Das (30) at HRBR Layout for seven years after deserting her husband Marappa. Ammu's three daughters and son Kumar were staying with her at Das's house. For the past few days, Das, said to be an alcoholic, was reportedly upset that Ammu was not taking proper care of him and her children were not obeying him. On Tuesday evening, Ammu went to her mother's house at Kammanahalli along with her daughters. Kumar and Das were at the house. After she returned around 6.30 p.m., Das told her that he had murdered Kumar to "teach her a lesson" for neglecting him. When Ammu went to the Hennur police station to lodge a complaint, Das followed her and surrendered before the police. On information given by Das, the police traced Kumar's body at the wooded area.
