Volunteers clean burial ground

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: It was an example of public initiative. After watching with concern the manner in which the burial ground had degenerated, a group of 35 people gathered to clean it up themselves.

Members of the Federation of Volunteers of Ganganagar got together and partially cleaned up the burial ground by removing the weeds and clearing the garbage. "We were carrying the body of a friend's father to the burial ground recently. But while we were walking, someone carrying the body tripped and the body fell down. This incident made us get our act together and clean up the burial ground," says Venkatesh, a member of the federation.

The former minister Roshan Baig and representatives of the area corporator L.A. Jayalakshmi had assured the team that cleaning of the burial ground would be taken up immediately.
