Alleged criminals nabbed
According to the police, accused Rajesh Singh Adhikari and Ranjeet Singh were arrested in a raid on Tuesday at their hideout in Punjabi Bagh. The third accused, Sanjay Zutsi, was arrested in another raid at Sarai Kale Khan. The police said the accused were involved in the much talked about Tarun Puri kidnapping for ransom case in which Sanjay had opened fire at the Puri family in 1997 to kidnap their son. They were also involved in other cases of kidnapping reported from Uttar Pradesh. While the accused and most of their accomplices were convicted in Tarun Puri kidnapping case, Sanjay had managed to escape from the custody of U.P. police in 2003. His associates were arrested in 2002 in U.P. for possessing foreign-made 9 mm pistols. Rajesh Adhikari, too, had managed to escape from the custody of U.P. police in 2003 when he was being brought to Delhi to appear at Tis Hazari courts. He had managed to jump from a running train near Lucknow.
Three arrested for robbery
According to the police, the accused, Aakhir, Abdul Sattar and a 15-year-old boy, were arrested on Tuesday evening. During interrogation, the accused purportedly revealed that they were hiding in bushes near CTC Plaza and pounced on Jagat Samal, a courier boy with CMS, when he happened to pass by the lane around 1 p.m. They then took him to the forest near DND flyway and forced him to part with his bag in which Rs. 25,000 was kept. When Samal offered resistance, they hit him in the face with an iron punch. The police said the accused were illegal Bangladeshi migrants with no permanent address. They were also involved in petty crimes like bag lifting and chain snatching. The accused spent some money on celebrating Id and also gave away some of the cash to a couple of friends.
