KOCHI: The 10-day-old strike at Hankook Latex Private Limited, a Korean company that is setting up a condom and finger cots unit at the Government-owned Rubber Park at Irapuram, near here, has been called off after the company management and trade union leaders reached an agreement on the use of pre-mix concrete in the construction of the factory building. The agreement was reached at a meeting convened by District Collector A. P. M. Mohammed Hanish late on Tuesday evening. The strike had brought work on the factory building to a standstill as the trade unions and the company management took the issue before the Regional Joint Labour Commissioner. One of the significant outcomes of the conciliatory meeting was the decision to constitute a committee headed by the Rubber Park Managing Director to resolve any dispute in the future. According to the agreement, the trade unions would not put any condition on the use of pre-mix concrete in constructing areas above the ground floor, it is learnt. For areas up to 2,000 sq.ft. on the ground floor no pre-mix concrete would be used. The terms have been agreed to both by the management and the trade unions. A spokesman for Hankook Latex said that the revised wages, including the arrears would be paid immediately. He said that he expected work on the factory building to resume immediately.
