Collector seeks report

  • Transactions to be nullified in case of irregularities
  • Role of middlemen being probed

KOCHI: District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish has ordered the district registrar to submit a report on big land transactions during the last one month. It would include the land amassed near the Infopark, considering the developmental prospects.

If any irregularities are found, the transaction would be nullified, the Collector said. Earlier, Mr. Hanish had also asked for a report on the status of recovery land and lease land in the district. He also said that a study would be conducted on the social and political connections of the middlemen involved in big land deals. There were complaints that middlemen were involved in strikes being organised against land acquisition for major development projects. A major project of a Government agency was shelved in Munukara panchayat because of the protests in the name of agricultural land. However, major land deals were reported from the area.

    Land acquisition

Land acquisition at Vallarpadam for the National Highway would be held from November 1 to 20. Those who have submitted an agreement for giving away land would be given the price decided by the purchase committee. Those who have not given any agreement would be given a price according to the land acquisition rules. However, they would lose out on being given any other benefits.

The construction of the National Highway from Kalamassery would start from December 1. Those who have submitted an agreement to give land need to give all the related documents of the land, including the land tax receipts to the Cochin Port Trust office. About Rs.20 crore has been received for acquiring land, Mr. Hanish said. More funds are expected, he added.

About 100 acres of land in seven villages are being acquired for the National Highway. For this, 50 per cent of the landowners have submitted their agreement to give up land, Mr. Hanish said.

Meanwhile, 136 acres of land for Infopark would be acquired by November 15.
