KOLLAM: The district unit of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has said that Kollam MP P. Rajendran had played no role in the development programme effected recently at the Kollam railway station. In a statement here on Thursday, district president of the RJD Mangad Santosh said that it was on account of the various initiatives taken by his party that the Kollam Railway Station got listed as a model station. Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is the leader of the RJD. The district unit of the party had specially invited the national secretary of its women's wing Anu Chacko to the station for gathering a first hand information on the immediate development requirements. Ms. Chacko is a member of the Zonal Railway Users Coordination Committee. It was following her intervention that various development schemes were initiated at the station, Mr. Santosh said. The district unit has also submitted a memorandum to Mr. Yadav requesting the Railways to ensure that the morning Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam passenger train arrives at Kollam by 8.30 p.m. Mr. Santosh said that when this is implemented, Mr. Rajendran would claim credit for that too.
