"Coordinated planning must to showcase tourism"

Special Correspondent

"committee associating private players will help"

Puducherry: It is true that the Union Territory has been attracting a large number of tourists from other parts of the country.

The efforts of the administration to present a clean Puducherry have already started seeing the light of the day.

However, a section of hoteliers in Puducherry whom this correspondent interviewed on Thursday said that the administration should adopt a coordinated approach to showcase tourism on a sustained basis.

A spokesman of a leading hotel said that there could be formation of a consultative committee associating the private players to get feedback and to augment the facilities.

The spokesman said that a good number of private players from abroad were prepared to make investments in tourism-related projects.

As a matter of fact there had also been invitation by the Union Territory administration to the tourism promoters from other countries.

No piecemeal approach

However, there should be no piecemeal approach, the hotelier pointed out.

It is also suggested that the Department of Tourism could sell the products, including handicrafts highlighting Puducherry, through hotels.

Week-end flow of tourists into Puduchery had been very high and in fact those visiting the city without making an advance booking of accommodation would find it difficult to get rooms.
