GREEN CAUSE: Principal District and Sessions Judge P. Krishna Bhat speaking at a seminar on non-renewable energy resources in Bidar on Thursday.
Bidar: There is an immediate need to conserve the fast-depleting natural resources and fossil fuels, Principal District and Sessions Judge P. Krishna Bhat said in Bidar on Thursday. He was speaking at a two-day seminar on "Non Renewable Energy Resources" organised by the Union Ministry for New and Renewable Energy Sources and Shantishwari NGO. He said the pace of development was so fast that people had no time to think of the consequences of the depleting natural resources and fossil fuels. He observed that ancient Indian texts had given a sacred place to the Sun as they knew it was a huge energy source. "We continue to worship the Sun everyday, but are slow to adopt solar energy for our daily needs," he said. He asked people to conserve non-renewable energy sources such as petrol, diesel and coal. This was part of environment protection, he said. He also urged people to use more alternative energy sources such as bio-diesel, solar energy and wind energy. District civil judge B.S. Bhagya Rathna expressed concern that the laidback urban lifestyle had made people inactive and dependent on machines and vehicles. "Most of us who walked to schools and colleges now use vehicles to reach workplaces. This drains the earth of valuable fuel deposits. We should use them with care," she said. She called upon people to spread awareness about the need to use alternative energy sources.
