Petition wants `autonomy' report made public

Staff Reporter

The idea of regional federalism has gained momentum in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: A writ petition has been filed in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court for notifying and making public the report on regional federalism, which was drafted during the National Conference regime in 1998.

The idea of regional federalism has picked up momentum and sparked a debate among the political parties of the State.

Almost all political parties have supported the need for devolving powers to the three regions of the State.

This is for safeguarding their political, cultural and economic rights.

The 1998 report had given detailed suggestions on political, social and economic changes required for meeting the aspirations of every ethnic and regional group of the State.

However, the report prepared by experts was never made public.
