Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI: A 15-member delegation from Sri Lanka from the All-Party Representatives Committee (APRC) was given briefings by the Law Ministry and the Home Ministry on Thursday.

The delegation, studying the devolution of powers in Sri Lanka, will be here till October 29.

It is led by the Sri Lankan Science and Technology Minister Prof. Witarana.

At the Home Ministry the team was given a presentation on how Centre-State relations work in India. On Friday, the APRC will have a session on Panchayati Raj.

"The President of Sri Lanka [Mahinda Rajapaksa] has set up the All-Party Representatives Committee and tasked it with finding the basis for a lasting political settlement to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka. With this in mind, the APRC is looking at various models of devolution," a statement from the External Affairs Ministry said.
