KARIMNAGAR: Telugu Desam Party leader and former Minister Kadiam Srihari has alleged that the State Government is resorting to corrupt practices in the name of Jalayagnam, Outer Ring Road (ORR) project and special economic zones (SEZs). Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he charged the Government with inviting tenders for Rs. 40,000 crores for the execution of irrigation projects and released Rs. 4,000 crores as advances to contractors. Contrary to claims of completing eight projects in one year for providing irrigation facilities to 16 lakh acres, he said the Government had failed to complete not even one project in two-and-a-half years.
Mobilisation advances
He criticised the Government for not recovering the advances from contractors for failing to complete the projects in a time-bound programme. The Government had increased the project cost of Yellampalli project by over Rs. 400 crores while SRSP flood flow canal project work cost was escalated. He found fault with the Government for not stopping those projects which were detrimental to the interests of the State. He wanted the Government to impress upon the Centre to illegal projects being taken up in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Charging the Government with ordering a CBI inquiry into the ORR issue to dilute the investigation process, he asked the Government to order an inquiry by a sitting High Court or Supreme Court judge.
Karimnagar bypoll
The TDP leader exuded confidence that his party would win the byelections to the Karimnagar Parliamentary constituency with a thumping majority. He said the TRS would be wiped out of the region once the byelection results were out. He criticised the Congress and the TRS for politicising the Muslim reservation issue. He alleged that the Government was negligent on development of Telangana. He said Congress and TRS leaders had remained silent when the Godavari waters were being diverted to the Andhra region.
