  • Funds for the project to be earmarked in the next budget
  • H.K. Kumaraswamy warns bankers

GULBARGA: Minister for Women and Child Welfare H.K. Kumaraswamy on Thursday said the Government proposed to construct shopping complexes and auditoriums in all district and taluk headquarters. This was being undertaken to enable self-help groups market their products at the complexes and hold meetings and functions in the auditoriums. Speaking at a function after distributing tricycles and cheques to beneficiaries under different schemes of the department here, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the funds for constructing the shopping complexes and auditoriums would be earmarked in the next budget.

Referring to the demand by SHGs for a common building, the Minister said the Government had made a provision for Rs. 54 lakh this year for constructing common buildings for SHGs in the district headquarters and funds had been released.

On constructing such buildings at the village level, Mr. Kumaraswamy said it would involve a huge expenditure. He appealed to the SHGs to contribute at least Rs. 5,000 each and said the Government would contribute the remaining amount for the buildings. On the other demand for increasing the revolving fund of Rs. 5,000 provided to the SHGs, the Minister said he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister.

Referring to complaints of SHGs about the unhelpful attitude of bankers in providing credit linkage and harassment in providing loans, the Minister said the Government viewed this seriously.
