HYDERABAD: Four Opposition parties -- Telugu Desam Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India (CPI) and the CPI (M) -- on Thursday demanded cancellation of sale deeds effected in the name of Congress leader A. Rajaiah in Ranga Reddy district. They wanted an enquiry into the alleged purchase through middlemen by Mr. Rajaiah, vice-president of the Congress Party's OBC Cell, of large tracts around several thandas in Manchala mandal, including Loyapalli, by a sitting High Court judge, while declaring all related transactions null and void.
Unanimous
The demands were unanimously voiced by leaders T. Devender Goud, N. Janardhan Reddy, K. Vijaya Rama Rao, Lal Jan Basha and Adilabad Zilla Parishad chairman Ramesh Rathod of the TDP, K. Laxman (BJP), K. Narayana and Balamallesh (CPI) and D.G. Narasimha Rao (CPI-M), after separate visits to Loyapalli on Thursday. The land in question is full of hillocks. Villagers, mostly tribals, said they were making a frugal living selling the produce in the nearest market, usually the mandal headquarters of Ibrahimpatnam. Tribal women Ramulamma, Soni and Dorji said the middlemen had paid different rates to farmers in different villages. TDP's Deputy Floor Leader Mr. Devender Goud alleged it was quite probable that the land in question was bought by Congress leaders as it was likely to be earmarked for setting up a Special Economic Zone.
