Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to persuade the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) to fulfil its commitments to the State on investments. In a letter handed over to Dr. Singh during his visit on Thursday, Dr. Reddy said the ONGC along with its subsidiary MRPL, signed MoUs with AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation for promotion of Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) and to invest Rs. 7,500 crores in a refinery. More than 4, 000 acres of land had already been acquired and conveyed to KSEZ and the balance 6, 000 acres too would be acquired soon, he cited in defence of his argument. In another letter, he sought convening of a meeting of the officials of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, ONGC, GAIL, Ministry of Power and Planning Commission to arrive at a holistic decision of supply and pricing of gas for the power sector. Andhra Pradesh badly needs supply of gas from Ravva fields in the Krishna Godavari basin due to the shortage in power production. The unilateral increase of the gas prices to power utilities was also not justified, he said. In a different letter, he pleaded for expeditious announcement of the semiconductor policy as the Fab City could become a reality soon here. Speaking to reporters at the airport after the departure of the Prime Minister, Dr. Reddy said he had reminded Dr. Singh that the SEZ and refinery of ONGC at Kakinada were cleared by the Union Cabinet. In spite of that, the ONGC was withdrawing the project. He also said he had requested Dr. Singh to take steps to set up a regulatory authority to streamline gas rates.
