Sam Gunaratne still in the lead

KANDY: Heavy downpour disrupted the second day's proceedings of the Sri Lankan Airlines Golf Classic at the Victoria Golf Club and Resorts here on Thursday. A lot of players will begin their second round only on Friday.

"Due to rain, the preferred lies concept will come into effect from the next day. If it doesn't continue to rain, play will resume," Tournament Director Mike Wani said.

Sri Lanka's Sam Gunaratne remains in the lead in the men's category with a nett score of 75. He carded 37 after a 38 on the first day.

Ian Tait, overnight joint leader along with Sam, slipped to the fourth spot with a two-day score of 69.

Sri Lanka's Y. Abhayaratne leads the women's section with a score of 65. Overnight leader Indira Tibblin is yet to begin her second round.

The results:

Men: Sam Gunaratne (Sri Lanka) (38, 37), 2. Rohan Aturaliya (SL) (41, 33), 3. R. Hameed (SL) (37, 36), 4. Ian Tait (UK) (38, 31).

Women: 1. Y. Abhayaratne (SL) (34, 31), 2. C. Michael (33, 27).
