It's Bengal vs Mizoram

CHENNAI: Holder Mizoram will face West Bengal again in the final of the National sub-junior football championship for the Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy on Saturday. Friday is a rest day.

In the second semifinal on Thursday, last year's runner-up, West Bengal carved out a thumping 6-1 win over Karnataka. Starting off with a second-minute goal by Arijit Basak, Bengal did not look back, scoring three goals in each half to emerge convincing victor.

Adaptability was the key on a turf that resembled a paddy field, thanks to the rain. The Bengal youngsters seemed better prepared for the occasion.

Goals started to come in a flurry. After Arijit, it was Mithun Saha who scored (15th), followed two minutes later by Ajay Mullick.

After the change of ends, Mullick added another, courtesy a pass by Samarendu Kisku (68th).

Arijit made it 5-0 (75th) before Karnataka pulled one back, Sanju Kumar producing the rare moment off a long shot (87th).

Mullick then rounded off the Bengal score with a regulation shot off a cross from the day's most impressive player, midfielder Beirona. — Special Correspondent
